Kenya long weekends 2026
Which Kenya public holidays in 2026 already create a long weekend, and which ones are worth a day of leave.
This leave planner is the Kenya 2026 companion to the public-holiday list. It uses the same dates as the Africa Calendar studio. Kenya’s ordinary weekend is Saturday and Sunday.
A natural long weekend is a public holiday that already sits on Friday or Monday, so many offices close for three days without anyone booking leave. A bridge weekend is a mid-week holiday where one or two leave days connect the holiday to the weekend.
Natural Friday holidays in 2026: End of Ramadan (Eid al-Fitr) (Friday, 20 March 2026), Good Friday (Friday, 3 April 2026), Labour Day (Friday, 1 May 2026), Christmas Day (Friday, 25 December 2026).
Natural Monday holidays in 2026: Easter Monday (Monday, 6 April 2026), Madaraka Day (Monday, 1 June 2026).
Open the Kenya 2026 holiday list for the name of each day, or print a wall calendar from the studio. This page is not a payroll system.
Kenya 2026 already includes several natural long weekends without bridge leave. Good Friday (3 April) through Easter Monday (6 April) gives many offices a four-day close once you count the weekend in between. Labour Day on Friday 1 May is another easy three-day stretch.
Madaraka Day on Monday 1 June attaches to the preceding weekend. Jamhuri Day on Saturday 12 December sits on the ordinary weekend; Kenyan observance rules may move the weekday off — check the holiday list for the civil date shown here.
When a holiday lands mid-week, one day of annual leave can still bridge to a weekend. Use this planner together with the working-days calculator to see how many weekdays you actually work in a month, not just which weekends look tempting on a wall calendar.
Concrete 2026 example for parents: the Kenya school calendar puts the April holiday across Easter week. If you travel then, you are using a school break that already covers Good Friday and Easter Monday, so you may not need extra leave for that stretch. Confirm the circular on the school page before you book.
Concrete 2026 example for office teams: Labour Day on Friday 1 May is a three-day weekend with no leave. Madaraka Day on Monday 1 June is another. A team that wants a longer May–June gap still has to spend leave on ordinary weekdays between those two public holidays.
Concrete 2026 example for year-end: Mashujaa Day (20 October) sits next to the end of Term 3 on the school page, and Jamhuri Day (12 December) sits inside the December holiday window. Pair this leave planner with the Kenya 2026 holiday hub and the school calendar rather than guessing from a wall grid alone.
Friday 20 March 2026 is Eid al-Fitr on the Kenya list, already gazetted on 18 March 2026. That Friday is a third natural three-day weekend, separate from Easter week in April and from Labour Day on Friday 1 May.
Wednesday 27 May 2026 is Eid al-Adha (gazetted 25 May 2026). A Wednesday holiday does not create a long weekend unless you spend leave on Tuesday 26 May or Thursday 28 May. This planner will not invent those leave days as public holidays.
Tuesday 20 October 2026 is Mashujaa Day, a single weekday. Saturday 10 October is Mazingira Day and already sits on the ordinary weekend, so it does not add a Monday on this 2026 list.
This page is a planner, not payroll. If your employer observes a different weekday, their notice wins. Open the holiday list for every named date, or print from the Kenya 2026 studio when you want a paper copy that stays ad-free.
Natural long weekends
End of Ramadan (Eid al-Fitr)
Friday — natural 3-day weekend. Friday 20 March 2026 is Eid al-Fitr on this page, and that civil date is already gazetted (notice published 18 March 2026). Because it is a Friday, many offices are closed through Sunday without annual leave. In Kenya the day is nationwide, not only for Muslim families.
Good Friday
Friday — natural 3-day weekend. Good Friday 2026 is 3 April. It opens a four-day close once you add Saturday 4 April, Sunday 5 April, and Easter Monday 6 April. The Friday itself commemorates the crucifixion and is a Kenyan public holiday.
Easter Monday
Monday — natural 3-day weekend. Easter Monday 2026 is 6 April. Kenya does not list Easter Sunday as a public holiday, so 5 April is an ordinary Sunday on this calendar. Use 3 April and 6 April when you plan the Easter stretch.
Labour Day
Friday — natural 3-day weekend. Labour Day 2026 falls on Friday 1 May, so May begins with a three-day weekend. The day honours workers; government offices and most private employers close.
Madaraka Day
Monday — natural 3-day weekend. Monday 1 June 2026 is Madaraka Day, the anniversary of internal self-government in 1963. Offices, schools, and most banks close. The preceding Saturday and Sunday already make this a three-day weekend.
Christmas Day
Friday — natural 3-day weekend. Friday 25 December 2026 is Christmas Day, so the December close starts with a three-day weekend before Boxing Day is even counted. Churches hold services; most offices and banks close.
