Nigeria long weekends 2027
Which Nigeria public holidays in 2027 already create a long weekend, and which ones are worth a day of leave.
This leave planner is the Nigeria 2027 companion to the public-holiday list. It uses the same dates as the Africa Calendar studio. Nigeria’s ordinary weekend is Saturday and Sunday.
A natural long weekend is a public holiday that already sits on Friday or Monday, so many offices close for three days without anyone booking leave. A bridge weekend is a mid-week holiday where one or two leave days connect the holiday to the weekend.
Natural Friday holidays in 2027: New Year's Day (Friday, 1 January 2027), Good Friday (Friday, 26 March 2027), Independence Day (Friday, 1 October 2027).
Natural Monday holidays in 2027: Easter Monday (Monday, 29 March 2027), Worker's Day (substitute day) (Monday, 3 May 2027), Democracy Day (substitute day) (Monday, 14 June 2027).
Open the Nigeria 2027 holiday list for the name of each day, or print a wall calendar from the studio. This page is not a payroll system.
Natural long weekends
New Year's Day
Friday — natural 3-day weekend. Friday 1 January 2027 is New Year’s Day in Nigeria, so the year starts with a three-day weekend. That Friday is the first federal close of 2027.
Good Friday
Friday — natural 3-day weekend. Friday 26 March 2027 is Good Friday. Easter finishes in March, matching Kenya’s 2027 pair but under Nigeria’s federal list.
Easter Monday
Monday — natural 3-day weekend. Monday 29 March 2027 is Easter Monday. The four-day close is 26–29 March including the weekend.
Worker's Day (substitute day)
Monday — natural 3-day weekend. Saturday 1 May 2027 is Workers’ Day. This list also shows Monday 3 May as a substitute day. If your workplace follows that Monday, May’s first lost weekday is Monday, not Saturday.
Democracy Day (substitute day)
Monday — natural 3-day weekend. Saturday 12 June 2027 is Democracy Day on the civil date. The weekday off on this list is the Monday substitute.
Independence Day
Friday — natural 3-day weekend. Friday 1 October 2027 is Independence Day, so October opens with a three-day weekend. That is a different weekday from 2026’s Thursday 1 October.
