Nigeria long weekends 2028
Which Nigeria public holidays in 2028 already create a long weekend, and which ones are worth a day of leave.
This leave planner is the Nigeria 2028 companion to the public-holiday list. It uses the same dates as the Africa Calendar studio. Nigeria’s ordinary weekend is Saturday and Sunday.
A natural long weekend is a public holiday that already sits on Friday or Monday, so many offices close for three days without anyone booking leave. A bridge weekend is a mid-week holiday where one or two leave days connect the holiday to the weekend.
Natural Friday holidays in 2028: Good Friday (Friday, 14 April 2028), Id el Kabir (Friday, 5 May 2028).
Natural Monday holidays in 2028: Easter Monday (Monday, 17 April 2028), Worker's Day (Monday, 1 May 2028), Democracy Day (Monday, 12 June 2028), Christmas Day (Monday, 25 December 2028).
Open the Nigeria 2028 holiday list for the name of each day, or print a wall calendar from the studio. This page is not a payroll system.
Natural long weekends
Good Friday
Friday — natural 3-day weekend. Friday 14 April 2028 is Good Friday. Easter is in mid-April again.
Easter Monday
Monday — natural 3-day weekend. Monday 17 April 2028 is Easter Monday. The federal Easter close is 14–17 April including the weekend.
Worker's Day
Monday — natural 3-day weekend. Monday 1 May 2028 is Workers’ Day. May starts with a Monday holiday rather than a Friday or a Saturday-plus-substitute pair.
Id el Kabir
Friday — natural 3-day weekend. Friday 5 May 2028 is the listed Id el Kabir date, later in the same week as Workers’ Day. The lunar date is still an estimate.
Democracy Day
Monday — natural 3-day weekend. Monday 12 June 2028 is Democracy Day — a natural long weekend, the opposite attachment from 2026’s Friday. Civilian-rule commemorations still fall on 12 June; only the weekday changed.
Christmas Day
Monday — natural 3-day weekend. Monday 25 December 2028 is Christmas Day, so the December close starts on a Monday.
